FGB Fights Female Cancer Diseases In The UAE Through New ’Well Woman Plan’
(26 August 2012)
Product designed in line with bank’s commitment to develop services that address community needs

First Gulf Bank (FGB) today launched its ‘Well Woman Plan’ which provides cover for common cancers affecting women in the UAE, as the disease was determined to be the third leading cause of death in the country, as per the Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD). The leading financial partner of choice’s new scheme will go beyond providing financial aid for customers who join the plan, as the bank will also be donating AED 2 for every enrollment to the Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) society and the Pink Caravan initiative.

Under FGB’s insurance umbrella ‘First Insure’, the ‘Well Woman Plan’ is eligible to all female residents in the UAE between the ages of 18-64 years old, and covers many of the common cancers affecting women including breast, ovarian, fallopian tube, cervical, vaginal and vulvae cancers. It will also include an international medical consultation service - ‘Second Medical Opinion’- by specialists in the US.

The pre-approved plan does not require customers to undergo any medical examinations or to present family history to attain eligibility. Starting with a premium of AED 50/month, plan holders are guaranteed an upfront cash payment up to AED 200,000 if they are ever diagnosed with cancer. Coverage will vary according to plan chosen by the customer, to best suit their needs.

Commenting on this new, innovative product, Mufazzal Kajiji, Head of Wealth Management and Bancassurance at FGB, stated: “First Gulf Bank today launched its ‘Well Woman Plan’ which provides cover for common cancers affecting females in the UAE. As one of the largest local banks, we are committed to play a part in addressing concerns that are significant to our community. Having identified cancer as an important health issue to many according to community studies and figures issued by HAAD, we felt it was our duty to find a solution to help them provide financial reassurance when it is required the most, particularly to women.”

According to HAAD, 25% of cancers present in women in the UAE are attributed to breast cancer. Normally patients diagnosed with cancer require curative chemotherapy, where a six-month course of treatment can cost between AED 100,000 and AED 200,000. FGB’s product aims to provide customers with financial support in handling these expensive fees.

FGB’s ‘Well Woman Plan’ has no restrictions on how the customer spends the money, it could help pay for child care, help around the home, and even the little things she takes for granted like getting transportation to shops or doctors. It can also be used to help pay her medical bills or a relaxing holiday for recuperation.

Speaking of FGB’s decision to make a donation to FOCP and the Pink Caravan initiative for each new enrollment HE Ameera BinKaram, Founding Member and President of Friends of Cancer Patients, said: “Statistics indicate that cancer can happen to anyone at anytime, and dealing with cancer can be the single biggest challenge anyone may face. In addition, diagnosis and treatment of cancer can have huge financial implications for individuals and their families.”

“The Pink Caravan conveys a humanitarian message focused on providing outstanding medical and health services to the community, with the participation of interested and concerned parties like FGB through their efforts and donations. Not only is the ‘Well Woman Plan’ vital as it provides patients with financial reassurance, but the donations made by FGB will also enable us to continue spreading awareness about cancer,” she added.
